The Society of Mechanical Engineers, IIT Ropar was formed to give students interested in core mechanical engineering an exposure and opportunity to learn. It was formed to bridge the gap between the students and professors of mechanical department by coming up as a companion to express their demands to the faculties.

Our main tasks, though not limited to, are:

• To improve the recognition of this particular domain of engineering among the students and the entire IIT Ropar fraternity.
• Helping students, who are interested in core mechanical engineering, to find out more opportunities in this domain and discuss ideas and issues with the relevant professor/professionals of this field.
• Motivating and creating teams for participation in various prestigious events like SAE BAJA, Shell Eco Marathon and technical fests of various institutions and providing them with the resources to give their best shot at any event they participate in.
• Spreading awareness about the latest developments in the field of mechanical engineering among all the students. This is done with the help of a newsletter that is being published frequently by the society.
• Organizing various talks by professors of IIT Ropar, other institutions as well as alumni and professionals who have excelled in this domain.
